The Opportunity

We are a rapidly growing manufacturer’s rep firm based in Kentucky that represents commercial & industrial HVAC products. This position will be primarily responsible for the daily field activities required to Troubleshoot and diagnose building mechanical systems (including but not limited to: RTUs, split systems, VRFs, boilers, chillers, AHU and VAV).  The Mechanical Service Technician is responsible for maintaining excellent customer relationships, maintaining expert knowledge on HVAC equipment, providing and maintaining quality workmanship and documentation, coordination of post-sale work, verifying safety standards are met, and issue resolution.  This position will demonstrate excellent time management skills as well as excellent problem-solving capabilities. 

Responsibilities

Description of Principle Duties:

  • Assist Project Manager with installation training when required.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose building mechanical systems (including but not limited to: RTUs, split systems, VRFs, boilers, chillers, AHU and VAV).
  • Capable of repairing and/or installing proposed diagnosis.
  • Responsible for planning, lay out and overall efficiency at project repair and/or installation.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and wiring diagrams.
  • Assist with Owner Training.
  • Support Service Manager with warranty and non-warranty issue resolution.
  • Manage onsite communication with customers and facility directors.
  • Maintain a safe work environment.
  • Occasionally assist with the startup or issue resolution with other mechanical and control product lines
  • Consult with Service Manager or manufacturer support in times of uncertainty.
  • Collaboration with project stakeholders to solve issues effectively and efficiently.
  • Coordination with aftermarket project management, and service controller to ensure jobs remain on track and on schedule.
  • Collaboration with manufacturers and AEC stakeholders to ensure effective issue resolution. This includes but not limited to AEC aftermarket project management, sales, application engineering, and operations controlling team.
  • Assist in training apprentices.

 

Other Basic Understandings:

  • Understands basic refrigeration cycle: Understand what super heat and subcooling shows in a refrigeration circuit, identifying components in refrigeration circuit, understanding how each component works, diagnosing problems in the refrigeration circuit, using manifold gauge set, pressure/temperature chart and temperature measuring devices for routine maintenance and to troubleshoot. Understands refrigeration recovery, evacuation, and proper charging of a system based off superheat and subcooling.
  • Understands basic electron theory, how electricity travels, AC and DC currents, single phase and three phase circuits, and series and parallel circuits. Ability to read basic wiring diagrams. Understanding Ohms Law. Ability to use multi-meters to read voltage, current and resistance values. Must be able to troubleshoot basic electrical circuits.
  • Understands the process of conditioning air and simultaneously control its temperature, humidity, and distribution. Must be able to read and understand mechanical drawings.
    • Understands basic heating cycle to include identifying components in heating system, understanding how each component works, diagnosing problems in the heating system using a gas pressure monometer and other devices for routine maintenance and to troubleshoot a gas fired unit.
    • Understands the theory of combustion and how it relates to combustible fuels such as gas and oil. Understands a gas combustion analyzer and how to correct if the combustion isn’t correct.

Qualifications

Education:

  • HVAC Journeyman license and EPA Certification. At least 1 year of trade related work experience.
  • High School diploma or equivalent GED certificate.
  • OSHA 10-hour safety certificate

 Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Mental stamina for problem solving and prioritizing multiple tasks.

 Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to operate computer keyboard and telephone, reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
